This past month I ordered the audio version of “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. I already own the book in print and have read it many times, but I often like to get the audio versions so I can listen to them while I drive in the car.
I find that it is a faster way for me to reread a book. “Think and Grow Rich” is one of the books I like to read at least once a year, so getting the audio version made a lot of sense.
I was able to finish listening to it in just a couple of weeks while commuting to and from work.
There were two quotes from the book that really stood out to me this time that I wanted to share with everyone.
“Only those who become money conscious ever accumulate great riches.”
This one really got me thinking. I think that most people you talk to would say that they would like to be rich. Not too many people WOULDN’T want to be rich.
The reason that most people are not rich is because they do not decide to become rich. They don’t ever make the decision, make a plan, or take any action towards a specific financial goal of becoming rich. They just wish that it will happen to them someday.
On the other hand, most people who have built a fortune for themselves, did do these things. They became “money conscious” at some point and therefore were able to start accumulating wealth by taking specific actions.
Here is the second quote (which is similar to the first quote) that stood out to me:
“Fortunes gravitate to men whose minds have been prepared to attract them just as surely as water gravitates to the ocean.”
I think the moral of these quotes is that if you truly desire to become wealthy, you need to get serious about money and take some very specific actions.
You need to get your mindset right before you begin, otherwise you will not be successful. So how do you start getting your mindset right?
Simple Daily Disciplines
Here are a few things I have been doing on a daily basis for the past year or so that have really had a huge impact on my mindset:
- Waking up earlier
- Reading at least 10 pages of a good book per day (personal development, investing, or business related)- this will add up to about 1 book per month on average
- Reviewing my very specific goals and my why’s (important reasons behind each goal) every day
- Writing down at least 3 things I am thankful for each day
- Writing down at least 1 positive thing that happened to me in the previous 24 hours
- Doing at least 1 random act of kindness each day
- Listening to 15 minutes of positive wealth affirmations each day
- Doing visualizations every morning
- Listen to an audio program or audio book while driving to and from work every day
I am usually able to do all of these things in the first hour when I wake up in the morning. I do multitask a bit which helps me fit it all in a smaller amount of time. For example, I listen to my affirmations while I am taking a shower, and I listen to the audio books while driving to and from work.
It is really amazing how much of an impact that these small daily disciplines have had on my overall mindset. I have found that I have started to become much, much more optimistic about everything. I am constantly having a better attitude on a more regular basis.
Getting your mindset right is vital to wealth accumulation, and by doing some of the things that I have listed above you can really start to reshape your mindset and get on the right track to building your fortune.
