CURRENT EVENTS: Interest payment on the US national debt reaches all time record high of more than HALF a TRILLION dollars!

First Time in History US Interest on Debt over Half a TRILLION Dollars

Remember the math we did a few days ago when I posted the CURRENT EVENTS article on Puerto Rico declaring bankruptcy?

US national debt: $19.9 Trillion

Estimated US unfunded liabilities: $200 Trillion+

US annual tax revenue: $3.36 Trillion

US government annual spending: $3.95 Trillion

US annual budget deficit: > $590 Billion

Well, it now appears that as the Federal Reserve Bank is trying to raise interest rates to retain confidence in the US Dollar and keep from rapid inflation, it appears to have become a double edged sword.  As rates rise, so does the US governments interest payments on the national debt.  Below we can see that just the interest alone on the outstanding $19.9 Trillion national debt now exceeds $500 Billion!  Imagine what is going to happen when rates rise eventually rise 1%, 2% or even 3%!!!!

US annual interest payment on national debt: > $508 Billion

Where does it end? With $19+ Trillion in debt and forever climbing? Just to service that debt the annual interest payment is now whopping $ 508.9 Billion. It will probably be $1Trillion in just a few short years.Screen Shot 2017-05-05 at 4.56.14 AM

  1. You’re absolutely right. It’s hard seeing congress getting voted in on promises that are never kept. All we can really do is focus on our own personal financial well being. Thanks for the comment!
