That was some of the advice given at a Goldman Sachs small business event in New York on Tuesday by business leaders Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York; Berkshire Hathaway Inc. BRK.A, +0.80% BRK.B, +0.58% Chief Executive and Chairman Warren Buffett; and Jack Dorsey, CEO of Square Inc. SQ, +0.17% and Twitter Inc. TWTR, -0.36%
While each business leader spoke to the importance of small business, their advice for small-business owners differed based on their own experiences. Here are some of their snippets of wisdom:
Buffett
“Tomorrow when you look in the mirror, just write in lipstick or whatever you want, ‘Delight my customer.’ Not satisfy my customer, delight my customer. Any business that has delighted customers has a sales force out there.”
“The classic example [is] Jeff Bezos. He set out every day to delight his customer by fast delivery, by lower prices, whatever it took. And today he is thinking about how to delight his customer. He’ll never quit…”
